Tarsorrhaphy

Tarsorrhaphy is a surgical procedure in which the eyelids are partially sewn together to narrow the opening of the eye. It is typically performed to protect the cornea when it is at risk of drying out or getting damaged, especially in conditions like severe dry eye, facial nerve palsy, or corneal ulcers that do not heal easily. By reducing the exposed surface of the eye, tarsorrhaphy helps retain moisture, promotes healing, and prevents further injury. The procedure can be temporary or permanent, depending on the patient’s condition, and is usually done under local anesthesia with minimal discomfort.
