SFIOL

Scleral Fixated Intraocular Lens (SFIOL) implantation is a surgical procedure used to place an intraocular lens (IOL) in patients who lack adequate capsular support, such as after complicated cataract surgery, lens dislocation, or trauma. In this technique, the IOL is fixated to the sclera (white part of the eye) using sutures or sutureless methods, ensuring stable lens positioning. SFIOL helps restore vision in cases where conventional lens implantation inside the capsular bag is not possible. The surgery requires high precision and is generally performed by experienced anterior segment or vitreoretinal surgeons.

  • Used when capsular support is absent or inadequate.
  • Lens is fixated to the sclera using sutured or sutureless techniques.
  • Indicated in complicated cataract surgery, trauma, or lens dislocation.
  • Restores vision when in-the-bag IOL placement is not possible.
  • Requires advanced surgical skills and precision.
  • Provides stable and long-term lens positioning.
